What you are looking at is a WordPress theme designed by me. I call it Kaman (I’ll let you figure out what it means) and I’m pretty excited about it. You could say it is a bit simple, but it was fun creating it. I would like it to be more and over time I’m sure I will find new way of doing things that will make it better.

The best thing about it from a web designer point of view is that it doesn’t use any tables. While reading through many forums and blogs, it seemed that the old way of using tables was going out the window because Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) was so much for flexible and artistic. So other than the WordPress environment and the plugins (granted that’s most of the site), it is all CSS. Pretty cool stuff, eh?

I received this in an email today and I thought it did a good job of summing up my thoughts about people who chose to move to a new country and then complain about that country. I think the following, whether true or not, hits the nail on the head! Do you agree?

+++++++++++++++

An incident occurred in a supermarket recently:

A Muslim woman dressed in a Burkha (a black gown & face mask) was standing with her shopping in a queue at the checkout.

When it was her turn to be served, and as she reached the cashier, she made a loud remark about the English Flag lapel pin, which the female cashier was wearing on her blouse.

The cashier reached up and touched the pin and said, “Yes, I always wear it proudly. My son serves abroad with the forces and I wear it for him.”

The Muslim woman then asked the cashier when she was going to stop bombing and killing her countrymen, explaining that she was Iraqi.

At that point, a Gentleman standing in the queue stepped forward, and interrupted with a calm and gentle voice, and said to the Iraqi woman:

“Excuse me, but hundreds of thousands of men and women, just like this ladies son have fought and sacrificed their lives so that people just like YOU can stand here, in England, which is MY country and allow you to blatantly accuse an innocent check-out cashier of bombing YOUR countrymen.

“It is my belief that if you were allowed to be as outspoken as that in Iraq, which you claim to be YOUR country, then we wouldn’t need to be fighting there today.

“However, now that you have learned how to speak out and criticize the English people who have afforded you the protection of MY country, I will gladly pay the cost of a ticket to help you pay your way back to Iraq.

“When you get there, and if you manage to survive for being as outspoken as what you are here in England, then you should be able to help straighten out the mess which YOUR Iraqi countrymen have got you into in the first place, which appears to be the reason that you have come to MY country to avoid.”

Apparently the queue cheered and applauded.

However, I think it must tell the Alexa robots how much interest I get from these guys because my Alexa ranking is getting better all the time. I’m obviously doing something right to attract these guys…or gals…or 12 year old genius computer hackers…

So why did I choose bamboo as my WordPress theme? Well, I have a vision of what my life will be like in the future and it includes bamboo. You see, my wife and I are planning on moving to Costa Rica and build and live in our dream home. Part of that dream home is a little courtyard off of the master bedroom surrounded by a high bamboo hedge.

But that is not the only reason. I also like bamboo because it is so useful a plant. It is used for everything from food to construction. I like the idea of being resourceful and I have had the opportunity to be resourceful many times in my life and I can say without hesitation that those times prove to be some of the most memorable times in my life as well as the times in my life when I grew the most, personally, professionally and spiritually.

Yet there is still more. I like the colour of bamboo. That is to say that I like the colour green. I like the modern concept of “green living” and continue to make efforts to improve in that respect. And I am not ashamed to say that I like green in the monetary sense. I like money. I like to make money. I like to manage money. I like to spend money.

Money is a very important part of our lives, not in the sense that money itself is important, but what money can do. Used wisely, money can do amazing things for the people who hold it. Used generously, money can do amazing things for the people around the people who hold it.

Since this is my first real post, I would love to get your comments on my blog, my theme and my thoughts. Even better, I would love it if you would let others know by Tweeting them or telling them that you read in at Facebook, etc.
