I am husband, a father, a son, and a brother. My life could probably be busier, and probably will get that way as I get deeper into it, but right now I am very happy with everything.
I was originally trained as a Mechanical Engineer at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg where I graduated in 1994. I had a brief stint in the agricultural machinery industry, working for New Holland, before taking on a niche role in the telecommunications industry, working for companies like Broadband Networks Inc., Nortel Networks, and finally Ceyba. As a result of the technology collapse, Ceyba closed its doors during the summer of 2003.
At that point, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I realized that I had not really enjoyed the work of the last few years as much as I had enjoyed working with the wide variety of people. Since I had a strong interest in personal investing through the stock market and real estate, I decided to retrain as a Financial Planner and went to work for Clarica Financial. Unfortunately, it was not long before I became disillusioned by the design of the personal financial services industry as a whole. I have seen many financial representatives unleashed on the public without sufficient training or any real desire to be truly helpful to their clients. It was the summer of 2007 when we decided to take some time off to do some things on our own.
By the fall of 2010, we had accumulated a life time of experiences, had spent significant quality time with our 3 children and immediate family, invested in a mobile home park in Warner Robins, Georgia and purchased a building lot in Costa Rica where we plan to move in the near future.
Sometimes, “things” do not work out as planned. While we achieved many goals, we had exhausted savings and added debts so I decided to get back to engineering and began working for JAZZ Solar Solutions in Ottawa. By Spring of 2012, I had been responsible for the design and/or installation of over 1 megawatt of solar photovoltaic systems in the Ottawa, Ontario area.
What does the future have in store for us? I don’t know for sure, but we are always working towards our goals.

All the best in everything you do.
This is by far my favourite photo of our family all together. It was taken by a friend of ours who sadly (for us) have moved back to New Zealand. I cropped it to use as an image on a business website of Amelia’s. I like how it shows everyone’s character and happiness, but also seems to be tailored to Amelia as the center piece of the family. Which of course she is.
